Spring is here… and that means it’s baseball season. The Millikan Varsity baseball team played a double-header against Bellflower last Saturday that gave the fans an exciting look at what to expect from our boys. In game 1, the teams were tied at 2 runs apiece going into the 10th inning. With two outs and a man on third, the Bucs were able to score on a wild pitch from Millikan pitcher, Trevor Sutt bringing home the go-ahead run. This was the only blemish on Trevor’s day as he came into relief of starter Kelly Hawkshaw and delivered 4 scoreless innings. Despite being down, the Rams were able to get two runners on with one out. Following an infield pop up, the Bucs decided to walk Millikan’s 3-hitter, Moises Guzman leading to CJ Baker. CJ fell behind 1-2 but found the barrel and crushed a ball to the right center gap scoring two runs and giving the Rams a 4-3 walk off win.
Game 2 was eerily similar in that the Rams found themselves down 3-2 in the bottom of the 7th. With a runner on and 1-out and CJ Baker hitting, Baker laced a triple in the left center gap to bring home the tying run, and put the Rams in great position to win it. Following a couple of walks to load the bases, the Bucs pitcher felt the pressure and proceeded to walk in the winning run. Again Rams win game 2, 4-3 on a walk off. Great day for Millikan, as the lead up to the very difficult Loara Tournament coming this Friday.
