Rams News · Winter Sports Update

Fellow Rams,

Here is an update on our Winter Sports!

Boys Soccer: 4-1 overall. The Millikan boys soccer team is off to another good start in the 18-19 season. The boys have been forced to shuffle around in the off season due to field space restrictions, but it doesn’t appear that has affected them much. Millikan has just come off a 2-0 win over Artesia yesterday at Dehaven Stadium. The team has rescheduled their game against Colton HS to Saturday, Dec. 8th at 10:00am. Millikan will open league against Wilson on Dec. 10th.

Boys Basketball: 5-4 overall. Despite a rough end to last season, graduating several seniors, and a coaching change, the boys basketball team has found some energy to begin this year’s campaign. The boys took 3rd place in the Valley Christian Tournament, and went 2-2 in the Coyote Classic. Millikan faced a very good St. Anthony team last night and learned some lessons, but the team is showing its hidden talent. Led by Freshman Rob Diaz, and seniors Stephon Leonard and Jon Green the Rams are holding their own and finding a new vibe for the 18-19 season. Millikan will open league against Compton at home next Wednesday, the 12th.

Wrestling: The boys and girls wrestling teams seem prepped for yet another title defense. The Rams have won 7 consecutive Moore League titles in a row, and despite graduating a few key seniors, they have filled those spots with some younger talent. Millikan finished 3rd in its Millikan duals tournament last weekend, and will open league against Wilson tomorrow at Wilson.

Girls Basketball: 3-1 overall. The girls basketball team is off to another good start. The lady Rams took 2nd place in their first tournament this season. The team is now in the 2AA division in the CIF Southern Section, which is a welcome relief for the ladies given the draws they have received in the playoffs the past few years in higher divisions. Millikan graduated a few key seniors last year, but has some young talent hitting the court this season. The ladies will open league against Compton next Wednesday at home.

Girls Water Polo: 4-0 overall (showing on Max Preps): The girls water polo team is showing signs of another special season. Last year, the Rams lost a tough game in the final seconds of play in the CIF quarter finals, and the bitter feeling of that loss has not gone away. The ladies look poised for another run this season despite moving up a division. They have beaten division opponents Woodbridge and La Habra in contests earlier this year.

Girls Soccer: 2-3 overall: The girls soccer team may not be off to the start they would like, but they have played some very good teams. Millikan and Wilson are the only two girls soccer teams competing in division 1 this season, so the Rams have to load their schedule to prime for league. The ladies have played 4 of their 5 games against division 1 opponents, not including a scrimmage against another D1 team in Huntington Beach. So, despite their overall record, the Rams are in good position to begin league against Wilson tomorrow.
